Only the rural subsample of the IHDS is used. Each regression includes fixed effects for districts and for age and an indicator for being female. “TSC started” is an indicator that in that district, by that year, a positive number of TSC latrines had been built. TSC implementation in 2001–2003 is used to predict test scores of various samples of children age eight to 11 in 2005 (see Section VIC) in order to demonstrate that the within-district program trend is uncorrelated with the trend in these older children’s test scores.
